Pipe is sized by the Inside Diameter and refers to a nominal – not actual – ID. For instance, 1" schedule 40 pipe, has an actual OD of 1.312"
Tubing is sized by the Outside Diameter and refers to the actual OD or 1″ tubing measures 1″ on the Outside Most marine products are made from Schedule 40 Aluminum Pipe, sizes 3/4, 1" 1-1/4"etc. or Stainless Steel Tube 7/8", 1", 1-1/14".
